It's official: I'm really no longer diabetic!

I got a note in the mail today from my doctor.  In it, my recent Hemoglobin A1C, a test that monitors blood sugar over time, showed that my A1C is better than it has ever been --  5.4%!

For monitoring glucose control, the Hemoglobin A1C (written as HgA1C), is reported as a percentage.  It is recommended that diabetics aim to keep their A1C below 7%.  A non-diabetic person will have a reading between 4% and 6%.  A diabetic reading is 6.5% or higher.  A reading of 5.7% - 6.4% is cautionary for pre-diabetes, and in this case ones doctor may want to suggest careful management of diet to bring the blood sugar down below 5.6%!

With a reading of 5.4%, I'm feeling pretty proud!
